about Icelandair VA
What is a Virtual Airline (VA)?
A virtual airline simulates a real-world airline, flying its own aircraft and routes in the virtual world of Flight Simulator.
Member of the virtual ailine (virtual pilos) join the airline and choose flights which they then fly in Flight Simulator using realistic airline procedures.
After the flight, virtual pilots report their flight in a pilot report (PIREP) and the hours of the flight are automatically added to their logbook.
As flight hours accumulate, members consequently progress through the ranks at the virtual airline.
But why?
Instead of flying aimlessly in your FS world, virtual airlines aim to bring together a community of FS pilots, and provide them with a fun and educational environment in which to fly.
Virtual pilots seek to learn rules and discipline required to fully enjoy the simulation of an airliner flight, and a virtual airline provides learning material, operation rules, fleet informations and schedules to achieve that.
Icelandair VA
In other virtual airlines when you become a member your only job is to complete a flight for the same airline, day after day, month after month, year after year. The learning curve may be too high for you or the realism level manic.
For this reason many pilots choose to join several VA's or quit over time. Who would want to fly the same planes and routes all the time? Boring.....not us!
This is where Icelandair VA comes in.
We have very basic rules to keep the learning curve low and have a custom made ACARS program that will provide help and support, and take care of all the flight data so that you can enjoy and concentrate on actual flying.
We provide complete airline fleet information and flying procedures we also encourage our pilots to learn them but its not mandatory and every member of Icelandair VA can set his personal realism goals for themselves.
New virtual pilots will find all they need is a quick start, and will progressively learn, while experienced ones will get full support for all the realism they wish to simulate.
We like to reach for the "as real as it gets" but, most of all, we know its an hobby meant to be fun, our members are able to choose whatever flight, route or aircraft they like, we even include cargo operations and hitoric flights for some of our airlines allowing the operation of classic aircrafts from the golden age of aviation!
Icelandair VA works side to side with both
VATSIM and
IVAO for online flying with real time traffic and traffic control.
We actively support Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and X and provide links to website for freeware and payware addons for those, but we also welcome and encourage the use of all others flight simulator programs.
Last but not least we invite all our members to join our
Message Board where the heart of our live community resides.
Here you will meet and know your flying colleagues, share experience and opinion, find the latest aviation news and addon review, get support for whatever problem and surely make new valuable friends from all around the world.
