What is a Virtual Airline (VA)?
A virtual airline simulates a real-world airline, flying its own aircraft and routes in the virtual world of Flight Simulator.
Members of the virtual ailine (virtual pilots) join the airline and choose flights which they then fly in Flight Simulator using realistic airline procedures.
After the flight, virtual pilots report their flights in a pilot report (PIREP) and the hours of the flight are automatically added to their logbook.
As flight hours accumulate, members progress through the ranks at the virtual airline.
Instead of flying aimlessly in Flight Simulator, virtual airlines aim to bring together a community of flightsim pilots and provide them with a fun and educational environment in which to fly.
Virtual pilots seek to learn rules and discipline required to fully enjoy the simulation of an airliner flight. A virtual airline provides learning material, operational rules, fleet information and schedules to achieve that.
In other virtual airlines when you become a member your only job is to complete a flight for the same airline, day after day, month after month, year after year. The learning curve may be too high for some or the realism level beyond reason.
For this reason many pilots choose to join several virtual airlines or quit over time. Who would want to fly the same planes and routes all the time? Boring.....but not with us!
This is where Swiss comes in.
We have common sense rules to keep the learning curve low and have a custom made ACARS program that will take care of all the flight data so that you can enjoy and concentrate on flying.
Swiss provides complete airline fleet information, live real world flight schedules and pre-flight briefing. We like to reach for the "as real as it gets" but most of all we know it's a hobby meant to be fun. Our members are able to choose whatever flight, route or aircraft they like, we even include cargo operations and historic flights for some of our airlines allowing the operation of classic aircrafts from the golden age of aviation!
Swiss works side by side with both VATSIM
for online flying with real time traffic and traffic control.
We actively support Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, FSX, P3D and X-Plane.
Last but not least we invite all our members to join our Message Board
where the heart of our community resides.
Here you will meet and get to know your flying colleagues, share experiences, voice opinions, read the latest aviation news, addon reviews, find support and make new friends from all around the world.
Flying Tigers Group
Swiss is a virtual airline affiliated with The Flying Tigers Group (FTG): "The gateway for airlines of the world".
Each virtual airline of the Flying Tigers Group includes different divisions including where applicable cargo
FTG allows its pilots to fly a selection of flights from all airlines that are members of the OneWorld
and Star Alliance
Members of one virtual airline can login in to any virtual airline affiliated with the Flying Tigers Group and can file PIREPs for all FTG Virtual Airlines.
The Flying Tigers Group is a nonprofit organization, not endorsed or affilated to any airline or other business activity of any kind.
All virtual airlines part of the Flying Tigers Group share the www.virtualairline.org
domains to stress the nonprofit organization nature and to avoid any possible confusion with the unrelated real counterparts.
Joining and flying with Swiss is absolutely free.
All funding is provided by donations and the FTG is proud to keep a neutral position in reviewing, discussing and promoting freeware and payware flight simulators and related addons.
